winter ends...

Hopefully yesterday was the last day of a long, tiresome winter.

This winter was the coldest in Iowa in 35 years.
The meteorological season of winter, which runs from Dec. 1 to Feb. 28, with an average temperature of 14.7 degree — or 7.2 degrees below normal — was the ninth coldest on the 141 years of recording weather.
The same can be said for Ames, which lined up almost precisely with the statewide average for winter temperature.
The Ames temperature, which is measured at the airport, recorded 16.7, 14.3 and 13.3 degrees in December, January and February. February was the coldest with a total of 13 days with temperatures under zero —and tied January — and 11.4 degrees colder than normal.
